Turn a spreadsheet into an app

Updated Jun 25, 2026

Upload an Excel workbook and SheetApps builds a working web app from it — forms, field types, dropdowns and rules — that your team signs into.

How to turn a spreadsheet into an app?

  • On My Apps, click New app and choose your `.xlsx` workbook or Google Sheets.
  • Review the forms, fields and data types SheetApps detected, and pick the app's additional languages.
  • Click Create app — your web app is created instantly. Click on Open App to start using the app.
  • Enter new records using the web form(s) in the app (a new app starts empty).

What gets built

  • A form for each Form_ sheet, with the right field types (text, number, date, currency…).
  • Your master-data lists become dropdowns.
  • Rules_ sheet determines field data types, validations and derivations.
  • Logic_ sheet determines formulas and calculations.
  • Translation_ sheet provides support for additional languages. Transforms the app into a multi-language application.
  • Report_ sheets defines dashboards for visualization.
  • Info_ sheet provides additional information about the app.

Good to know

  • The workbook is a blueprint, not your data — a new app starts empty.
  • If you want to upload data, use Import feature. To generate correct import data layout, click on Export and save the file.
    • In a brand new app with no records, the export file will just have the field headings. You can fill the relevant data in the file.
  • Need to change the design later? Edit the workbook and re-upload through Change app.
